Staying Sane in Crazy Times

Over these past months, my experience of living in Heaven on Earth on Mt. Shasta has gotten much stronger.

At the same time, I’ve been closely following the craziness that’s going on in this country and around the world.

I’m inspired to reach out to those of you who aren’t fortunate enough to live near Mt. Shasta or to come and visit and offer some suggestions for staying sane in these crazy times.

Grounding in What’s Always Present

In times of rapid change, it’s wise to ground deeply in what’s unchanging.

Connecting with What is Always Present (by whatever name you call That) can help us to live in peace in the midst of chaos.

This is a good time to rededicate ourselves to whatever spiritual practices help us make that connection.  Spend more time meditating/praying/chanting/etc., walking in nature, taking a Sabbath day, going on a spiritual retreat, etc.

The deeper I am able to ground in Eternal Reality, the less I am disturbed by current events.  When I radiate peace, that energy is touching everyone I connect with and going into the collective consciousness.

Be the Change

“If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.”

– Lao Tzu

If you’re following the news, you might notice fear, anger, sadness, or other emotions being triggered.

When this happens, the key is to shift your attention from thinking about the events triggering these emotions to feeling the emotions and sensations arising in your body.

Below is a simple process for consciously meeting fear and painful emotions:

  1. Be grateful that it has come into consciousness. Feel the gratitude as deeply as you can.
  2. Notice where you feel the emotion most strongly in your body. Bring your awareness to that spot and go into the emotion Do this with an attitude of curiosity and exploration. Don’t try to heal or shift anything
  3. When you’ve gone as deep as you’re ready to go, be grateful for however deep you’ve gone. Shift your attention to your breath. Focus on gratefully receiving the gift of life. Invite the breath to come right into that spot in your body where the fear is most strongly held. As the breath goes out, have a sense of letting go, allowing it to carry away whatever is ready to be released.
  4. Dive into the emotion again. Repeat this alternation as many times as is useful.

I strongly belief that consciousness is primary and outer reality secondary. If consciousness shifts, outer reality inevitably follows.  If we can consciously meet and transmute whatever painful emotions are triggered by the news, we are contributing to things moving in a positive direction.

“If you want to make a chance, start with the man in the mirror.”

– Michael Jackson

Love your Enemies

“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,”

– Jesus

Over the past 30 years, this country has become increasingly polarized.  There is a growing tendency for political leaders to tar their opponents with labels such as “un-American”, “evil” or “the enemy within.”  This has led to more and more hatred and political violence.

Back in the ‘90s, when I was living in DC, I took a wonderful class in “Transformational Politics.”  One of our homework assignments was to pick the leader you felt the most animosity toward and send blessings to him/her every day.

I just started doing this practice again myself and my heart feels better.

If enough of us send love and blessings to a leader we perceive as an enemy, it can help heal the poisonous political divide.  And it will certainly help everyone who does it to be more at peace.

Many of you are probably aware that one of St. Germain’s teachings is the power of the spoken word, particularly in the form of decrees.

Just about every day, I do these decrees:

“I AM God’s Grace Guiding, Blessing, and Protecting President Trump and all of our leaders.”

“I AM the Victory of Freedom, Truth, and Democracy in these United States of America!”

I encourage all of you to use the challenge of living in these crazy times to heal and awaken.  This is an opportunity for accelerated growth toward freedom and mastery.

So, the inner work is primary.  But, we have been gifted with these human bodies to act and speak.  By first doing the inner work, then taking action in alignment with our values, we can contribute to the world moving in a positive direction.

  1. Thank you Alex!

I just found your emails going to my junk folder. So happy I found them! Love this message on sending decrees to our enemies! I’ve given out this advice in the past and have heard testimony of the healing qualities it brings to the both sender and receiver.

Putting your Thursday night meditation in my calendar now. Sending much love and appreciation for all you do!
